Prosecuting Attorney Brian Gensel released the following statement on
Friday, after Democrat Stacey Whitten announced that she is challenging him
in the general election in November.
Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer in the county,” Gensel said.
“It is not a job for novices. It is certainly not a job for a bankruptcy
attorney with no real prosecution experience. In the nine years she has been
an attorney, Ms. Whitten has never appeared on any case in Porter County.
All twelve of my Deputy Prosecutors have more criminal law experience. All
but one has practiced law for a longer period of time.”
“To be an effective
prosecuting attorney, you need a strong working relationship with local,
state and federal law enforcement agencies as well as the judiciary and
criminal defense bar,” Gensel added. “Over the last 26 years I have
developed and relied upon these relationships to effectively prosecute
criminals and keep Porter County residents safer.”
