The Porter County Republicans are disavowing any ties to a “despicable
mailer” circulating by a group calling itself the Northwest Indiana
Political Action Committee against a Porter County Democratic candidate. GOP
Party Chairman Michael Simpson issued a prepared statement on Friday saying
that a post card handed out at a recent political event and posted the
NWIPAC’s website is “so reprehensible” and that its attribution to the
Porter County Republican Party is “an outright lie.”
According to Simpson, the group, which has a Lowell mailing address, is
seeking donations for a “smear campaign” against the candidate. The
candidate’s name is not mentioned in Simpson’s statement.
Simpson said his party has “no affiliation with or any desire to affiliate
with, nor will we participate in this type of low-level tactic.” He asserts
that no Republican candidate or current office holder has approved of the
“Porter County Republicans, and I believe Democrats, believe in spirited
campaigning that is fair and truthful. This kind of gutter politics has no
place,” Simpson said.
