The Porter County
Commissioners elected officers and introduced two county government new
hires at their meeting Tuesday morning.
The Commissioners
voted unanimously to re-elect their current officers, who are: Jeff Good,
R-Center, Commissioner President, Laura Blaney, D-South, Commissioner
Vice-President, and Jim Biggs, R-North, Commissioner Secretary.
New Hires
Heather Shearer,
who has already been on the job five weeks, is the new human resources
director for the county. Shearer, a native of Hebron, graduated from DePaul
University and has a decade of human resources experience.
Tuesday, on the
other hand, was Chelsea Bradford’s first day as a junior engineer with the
county. She is a graduate of Valparaiso University originally from Warsaw.
County Engineer Mike Novotney said Bradford stood out as someone who could
help with Department of Development and Stormwater projects, as she has
experience in municipal engineering and published research on water quality
and stormwater management.
Contracts
The Commissioners
also approved a number of contracts. They opted to renew a contract with
Kate Sanders for grant writing services; to renew as well the county’s
longstanding contractual services agreement with Purdue University for
$142,065; and to approve general services agreements with DLZ and American
Structurepoint and a bridge application services agreement with American
Structurepoint.
Facilities Director
Matt Stechly requested and received approval for a contract with Waste
Management of Indiana to provide garbage pick-up for the Emergency
Management Department.
