The Porter County Commissioners elected officers and introduced two county government new hires at their meeting Tuesday morning.

The Commissioners voted unanimously to re-elect their current officers, who are: Jeff Good, R-Center, Commissioner President, Laura Blaney, D-South, Commissioner Vice-President, and Jim Biggs, R-North, Commissioner Secretary.

New Hires

Heather Shearer, who has already been on the job five weeks, is the new human resources director for the county. Shearer, a native of Hebron, graduated from DePaul University and has a decade of human resources experience.

Tuesday, on the other hand, was Chelsea Bradford’s first day as a junior engineer with the county. She is a graduate of Valparaiso University originally from Warsaw. County Engineer Mike Novotney said Bradford stood out as someone who could help with Department of Development and Stormwater projects, as she has experience in municipal engineering and published research on water quality and stormwater management.

Contracts

The Commissioners also approved a number of contracts. They opted to renew a contract with Kate Sanders for grant writing services; to renew as well the county’s longstanding contractual services agreement with Purdue University for $142,065; and to approve general services agreements with DLZ and American Structurepoint and a bridge application services agreement with American Structurepoint.

Facilities Director Matt Stechly requested and received approval for a contract with Waste Management of Indiana to provide garbage pick-up for the Emergency Management Department.
