The Porter County
Assessor’s Office will be mailing the Jan. 1, 2018, assessment notices on
Tuesday, July 24.
This notice is
delivered annually on a Form 11 and provides taxpayers with this year’s
property assessment figures as compared to last year’s. The date of this
notice also triggers a 45-day appeal window in which taxpayers who disagree
with their assessed valuation may appeal. The last day that the Assessor
will receive appeals is at the end of business on Friday, Sept. 7.
A recent
legislative change requires taxpayers to file an appeal on the State Form
130, also known as a taxpayer's notice to initiate an appeal. This form is
available at the assessor’s office, the DLGF website,
www.in.gov/dlgf/2508.htm, or online at portercountyassessor.com
Please note that
appeals cannot be accepted if they are not submitted on this form.
The assessor’s
office noted that this mailing to nearly 90,000 parcels is another step
towards on-time property tax billing in Porter County. “The staff at the
office work hard to get these assessment notices out the door both
accurately and timely, and we look forward to working with taxpayers who may
have issues with their property assessment,” Assessor Jon Snyder said.
Porter County
remains the only county in Indiana to offer online tax appeals at
