Animal Control ordinance taken off County Commissioners agenda

Back To Front Page

The Porter County Board of Commissioners this morning pulled a “second reading” for a revamp to the Animal Control ordinance from its Tuesday meeting agenda.

The board held a public hearing in December where a number of local animal breeders raised objections over various aspects within the proposed ordinance to the point where the Commissioners agreed to table the matter to make revisions.

County Commissioner Laura Shurr Blaney, D-South, told the Tribune before deadline today that her board is working with local animal care professionals on amendments to the current animal control ordinance rather than instituting a brand new ordinance. She said she determined the amendments needed a few minor changes and has taken the matter off the agenda.

The Commissioners will meet on Tuesday at 1 p.m. inside Room 205 of the County Administration Building, 155 Indiana Ave.

On the agenda is a renewal of the County’s health insurance and workers compensation with Anton Insurance.

Tourism Commission Executive Director Lorelei Weimer will present to the commissioners the state of Indiana Dunes Tourism. She will also ask the board to approve cooperative funding and development agreements.

Sheriff David Reynolds will ask approval for a generator maintenance agreement, a glass replacement quote, and community proposal with Extend Group, LLC.

Highway Superintendent David James will discuss a contract extension with Asphalt Materials Inc. for liquid bituminous material.

ITS Director Sharon Lippens will present a copier purchase and maintenance agreement for the County Emergency Management Agency.

A second reading for an amendment to the Prairie at Aberdeen planned unit development will be voted on during Plan Commission business after the Commissioners’ regular meeting.
