100 Years of 4-H: Brittany and Brandon Biddle of Chesterton enjoy frozen
custard as part of the festivities at Saturday’s 4-H Centennial Celebration
at the Porter County Fair. Brittany, age 10, is involved in 4-H and her
brother Brandon, age 8, is an Explorer. Both are 4-H Lakeshore Drifters.
They are the children of Dean and Penny Biddle of Chesterton. The balloons
in the background were all launched with cards attached that read “4-H The
Power of Youth has made it to your part of the world.” Anyone who finds a
card is asked to return it to the address given.

4-H Centennial Celebration: Porter County Expo Center Director Lonnie
Steele hosted the Saturday afternoon 4-H Centennial Celebration by welcoming
everyone and by introducing the keynote speaker Jane Maxwell. Maxwell spoke
on the importance of 4-H in our lives especially for today’s youth. Everyone
who attended received a piece of the celebration cake from Strongbow’s and
frozen custard from Culver’s in Valparaiso as well as cookies and punch
prepared by 4-H parents.

Best of Breed Rabbit: Kate Baugher, 17, of Pine Township won Best of
Breed with her Silver Fox Rabbit, Esther, shown here Saturday at the Rabbit
Exhibit. Baugher’s second Silver Fox, Dweezel snagged Second Place.
Baugher’s Mini-Lop Bertha also won Second Place in her breed category.

Llama Reserve Grand Champion: Matt McClain, of Jackson Township,
takes a break with his one-year-old Llama named Sterling, who placed as
Reserve Grand Champion in both Obstacle and Showmanship. Also pictured
behind Sterling is his half brother Jonah. The Llamas were judged on
Saturday in the Porter County Fair show arena.

Picture Perfect: Jeanne Bullock of Chesterton is brushing her sheep,
preparing for the sheep judging to be held Monday afternoon at the Porter
County Fair. Jeanne will be a 6th grader at LIS this fall and is showing
sheep as well as lambs in the livestock show arena at the Porter County Fair

Taking a break: David Dumelle 2-1/2 of Chesterton takes a rest on the
Midway at the Porter County Fair Saturday. David enjoys a snack after a day
at the Fair. He is shown in his wagon with lemonade and popcorn by his side.
He is the son of David and Colleen Dummelle of Chesterton. This Tuesday will
be Kid’s Day at the fair where children can ride rides for one price $12.00
all afternoon from noon - 6 p.m. The Fair continues through Saturday.

Feeding Goats: Madilyn Favia, 21 months of LaPorte is all smiles while
feeding the animals at the Exotic Petting Zoo just off the Midway at this
year’s Porter County Fair. The Fair has something for all ages and continues
through Saturday, July 27 ending with the annual Monster Truck Grand Finale
starting at 8 p.m. in the Grandstand.

Piglets on Display: The Porter County Barnyard was a new feature this
year at the Porter County Fair. The Barnyard tent is located on the South
Side of the fair grounds behind the Expo Center commercial building.
Pictured are admirers Gabe Sprengelmeyer, Jim Bakken, and Gus Sprengelmeyer.
Standing above is Cliff Bakken of Chesterton. The barnyard had many animals
on display such as these piglets born recently, shown with their mother at
feeding time.

Fair baby: Among the dozens of attractions for fairgoers, the sight of a
newborn foal is one of the more heartwarming. Born Friday night at 9 p.m.,
the miniature horse filly is less than two feet tall, but is up and walking
and nursing. The foal and other farm animals can be seen in the TSC Porter
County Barnyard Exhibit, just south of the Expo East and 4-H Exhibit
