Twins show rabbits: Pictured left to right are twin sisters, Jessica and Diane Berg who showed their rabbits at the Porter County Fair. Jessica is pictured with “Professor,” a Holland Lop, who won the Best of Breed honors. Diane is holding Rosemary, a rabbit that belongs to the Cole’s family. The twins, members of Jackson Volunteers 4-H Club, also were kept busy Tuesday painting faces on children who visited the rabbit barn.

Goat Showmanship: Three 4-H members, all Chesterton High School students, ready their goats for the Goat Showmanship contest at the Porter County Fair. Pictured, left to right, are Margaret Knopic of Liberty Hot Shots, Andrea Glasser, of Jackson Volunteers and Susan Swarner of Liberty Hot Shots.

Sugar and Company: Sugar is pictured with her babies at the Porter County Fair. The Pygmy goats belong to Katie C. Balich of Jackson Volunteers 4-H Club.

Bringing in their roosters: Pictured, left to right, are Kynan and Hayley Wallace who stopped to show two of the 30 birds they are entering in the 2002 Porter County Fair. Kynan is holding a White Crested Polish Rooster and Hayley is holding a Bantam Rooster. Both are members of Liberty Hot Shots 4-H Club and are students at Chesterton High School.

Reserve Grand Pony: Hannah Ruple, 10, a St. Patrick’s School 5th grader and her pinto pony Patches, earned a Reserve Grand Champion ribbon at the 4-H Porter County Fair. Ruple, a Jackson Volunteer, is a second year 4-H’er and her pony is 16 years old. The Fair continues through Saturday.

Beating the heat: Kie, a two year-old Quarterhorse gelding, gets a welcome sponge bath after a workout Tuesday. His owner, Niki Jones, a Chesterton High School freshman, was practicing for the competitions under Western saddle. Jones is a member of the Jackson Volunteers 4-H club.

Smile! Ashley Dec and her horse Jordan are all smiles in the Porter County 4-H Fair horse barn Tuesday. Dec was showing an interested fairgoer what a horses’ teeth look like. Jordan is a two year-old Tobiana paint horse making his first appearance at the fair. Dec, a 5th year 4-H’er and a 4th year Horse and Pony exhibitor, plans to show him in the western pleasure classes.

Future 4-Hers? Ashley Dec holds her horse Jordan for Josh Devries and Abby Canright to pet. Six-year-olds Josh and Abby are Chesterton residents and will be starting first grade at Bailly Elementary School this year.
