Bulldogging at the fair: American Indians used to hold
the jaws of an alligator under the neck in order to keep hands free to tie
the jaws. Bert, who refers to himself as “Kuchunga” at the Porter County
Fair, demonstrates the bulldogging method used by Indians. During the free
educational program, a young girl volunteered to sit on the reptile. She
described the alligator’s back as hard and bumpy and the stomach as soft and
squishy.
