County Fair opens with llamas:
The Cole sisters of Jackson Township are pictured with their llamas at this year’s Porter County Fair. Shown left to right are 4-Her’s Audrey age 13, Autumn 13, and Emily 15. The girls will participate in llama judging on Friday and Saturday and will take part in the special fun night which includes llama limbo on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m., in the Livestock building. The girls parents are Steve and Pam and the llamas are leased by owner Pat Zupan of Jackson Township. Morgan Boatright, age 10, of Jackson Volunteers takes part in her first year in the Porter County Fair 4-H program. Showing off her 7 month old baby llama named Java. The duo will take part in costume, obstacle, and showmanship over the next couple of days at the fair grounds. Morgan’s parents are Jeff and Melissa of Jackson Township. 4-Hers Britta Ringas, age 13 and her brother Colin Ringas, age 12, of Chesterton, show off their training dogs Quill and Vinnie at this year’s dog judging competition at opening day of the 156th Porter County Fair. The dogs are owned by Natalie Taylor of Liberty Township and are trained by the Ringas children for fair competition. 4-H member Aris Ringas, a Chesterton High School sophomore participated in dog judging at this year’s Porter County Fair. Dogs were judged in many categories during the opening day of the fair on Thursday. Aris is pictured with Jewel the dog who received champion in obedience. Shows/judging will take place for rabbits, cats, sheep, cattle and other animals over the weekend. In the Horse Show Arena 4-H Draft Horse judging will also take place starting Saturday morning at 9 a.m. The Porter County Fair Queen contest was held Thursday evening at the opening night. Crowned 1st runner-up is Lindsey Cirak, sponsored by Cirak Trucking, she is a Chesterton High School Graduatate and attends Valparaiso University. Crowned Ms. Photogenic at the Porter County Fair Queen conest was Ashley Hanson, sponsored by Primary Color Salon/Spa, she is a Chesterton High School senior and participates in cheerleading.
