There are two State House races on Tuesday in which Dunelanders could cast
ballots, depending on where they live.
In the 4th District House race, incumbent Republican Ed Soliday will be
seeking his fourth term against Democrat challenger Greg Simms.
Soliday, a retired airline pilot and executive, told the Chesterton
Tribune that, in his view, the key issues are creating job
opportunities, keeping state spending and income in balance, and
appropriately supporting education opportunities. The key issues for Simms,
a high school social studies teacher and small business owner: education
reforms, workers’ rights, taxes, and transparency in government and public
services.
In the 9th District House race incumbent Democrat Scott Pelath is seeking
his eighth term against Republican challenger Dan Granquist.
The key issue for Pelath, a human resources director: “The working middle
class is not sharing in our state’s economic fortunes.” The key issue for
Granquist, an attorney: “Sound economic development strategies that will
promote job creation and expansion.”
