The Porter County Election Board will meet this Friday, Feb. 26, at 2:00 p.m. to discuss a challenge against the candidacy of John Sullivan who filed for the primary election for County Council 1st District Representative on the Democratic ticket.

A challenge was filed on Monday afternoon by Porter County Voter Registration Democratic director Kathy Kozuszek who said she filed a challenge questioning Sullivan’s party affiliation.

Kozuzsek this morning said that Sullivan’s voting record is in question because the last time he voted in a primary he declared as a Republican. Kozuszek, who lives within the 1st council district, said the state law says a candidate can be challenged by any eligible voter in that voting district under those circumstances.

Kozuszek said she will send certified letters to Sullivan and his primary opponent, County Council 1st District candidate incumbent Bob Poparad, D-1st, notifying them that a challenge has been made and to formally ask the candidates to attend the meeting on Friday.

The meeting will take place at the Porter County Administration Building (155 Indiana Ave., Valparaiso). Kozuszek said the board will announce the designated meeting room later this week.
