The Citizens for Northwest Indiana, a group that supported last year’s
Regional Transportation District referendum in Porter County, filed its
financial report on Tuesday with the Porter County Voters Registration
Office.
The report was marked late as financial reports were due on Jan. 20, the
same day filing began for the 2010 primary elections, according to Voters
Registration Democratic leader Kathy Kozuszek.
The Citizens for Northwest Indiana report shows a total of $28,000. The main
contributor was Task Force Tips owner Steven McMilllan, whose contributions
totaled $18,000. Other donors included $1,000 from Calvin E. Bellamy of
Munster, a $7,500 donation from Dean V. White of Merrillville, a $250
donation from Mark T. Maassel of Valparaiso, and a $150 donation from
Vincent H. Giabiati of Valparaiso.

A report from the Stop the RTA campaign was filed on Jan. 6 at the Voters
Registration office. The campaign reported $5,718.54 for its contributions,
with the primary contributor being Porter County Commissioner President
Robert Harper, D-Center. Harper, who also served as chairman for the
campaign, gave $4,600 in contributions.
The referendum to create a regional transportation district was defeated
last November overwhelmingly by voters in both Porter and St. Joseph
counties.
