Back to Front Page

Tuesday, July 6, was the deadline for the local Democratic or Republican parties to file a certificate with the Voters Registration Office that would fill a major party vacancy on the general election ballot.

The Democrats are adding focus to Union Twp. trustee and board member races. Donald J. Guernsey has been filed as the party’s challenger to Republican Union Twp. Trustee Anthony Pampalone in the November election.

Democrats Delbert Smallwood and Dale Homeier are filling two vacancies in the Union Twp. board races. Another board vacancy was filled by the Dems, this time in Porter Twp. with William Nawrocki filling a spot for the November ballot.

The Republicans are also getting in on the Union Twp. board and Porter Twp. board races. Bob Emery was named as the GOP candidate for the Union Twp. board and David Williams for Porter Twp. board.

The Republicans filed Kathy Lynch for the Pleasant Twp. Board member race. Republican Gail Goley, who ran in the May primary election, withdrew her candidacy for the Pleasant Twp. board.

No announcements were made by either parties for finding candidates to fill vacancies in larger county races, like the county council 2nd and 3rd districts where current contestants remain unopposed.

The county’s Voters Registration Republican director, Sundae Kubacki, said final ballots cannot be determined until after the Thursday, July 15 deadline when candidates who wish to voluntarily withdraw can do so by noon.

July 15 is also the deadline for independent and minor party candidates to file a declaration of candidacy and petition of nomination.
