Tara D. Tryon, 22, was originally charged with five counts of Class B felony
child molesting, punishable by a term of six to 20 years; a single count of
Class C felony child molesting, punishable by a term of two to eight years;
and seven counts of child exploitation, also a Class C felony.
Under the terms of the plea agreement, Tryon pleaded guilty to a single
count of Class B child molesting and was sentenced on Friday to 10 years on
that count, no time suspended; and she pleaded guilty to a single count of
child exploitation and was sentenced to eight years on that count, no time
But the agreement provides for the two terms to run concurrently, for an
effective sentence of 10 years.
The remaining counts were dismissed.
Tryon is also required to register as a sex offender and to submit to HIV
testing and she acknowledges her status “as a sexually violent predator,”
under Porter Superior Court Judge Bill Alexa’s sentencing order.
Tryon’s former boyfriend, Ryan Roy Schroeder, 27, is currently serving a
54-year sentence in the DOC, after he was found guilty late last year by
jury of telling Tryon to molest a Chesterton boy whom she was baby-sitting
and to tape the molestation.
The Indiana State Police began an investigation in October 2011, when
investigators came into possession of 39 images and two videos of a woman
later identified as Tryon.
According to the ISP, Tryon and Schroeder started dating in January 2010
after meeting at a Chesterton restaurant and at some point thereafter
Schroeder “pressured” Tryon to take pictures of the boy she was
baby-sitting. Schroeder “wanted her to begin with the boy as he was younger
and wouldn’t talk, the ISP said. “He would specifically state what he wanted
to see (Tryon) do.”
Multiple images of child pornography were subsequently found on Schroeder’s
external hard drive in his barracks in Florida, where he was stationed as a
sailor in the U.S. Navy.
