A Grovertown, Ind., woman was killed Friday after her vehicle was rear ended
by a semi-tractor trailer at the intersection of Ind. 49 and Vale Park Road,
Valparaiso Police said.
The victim was identified as Adele Nielsen, 78.
According to police, at 11:21 a.m. Nielsen was southbound on Ind. 49,
stopped for a red light at Vale Park Road, when trucker Jeffery Mokol, 47,
of Hebron, rear ended her.
Mokol advised police that he had “dozed off” for a second and on waking
struck Nielsen’s vehicle.
“Numerous witnesses confirmed Nielsen’s vehicle was stopped at the red stop
light prior to being struck by Mokol’s vehicle,” police said. “Mokol was not
injured in the crash.”
Police said that Mokol was issued a citation for disregarding the stop
light.
The crash remains under investigation, at the conclusion of which the case
will be forwarded to the Porter County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for
review.
