Valparaiso Police are warning folks of a new scam, after a resident was unsuccessfully targeted by a telephone caller informing her of the happy news that she’d won millions.

According to police, on Tuesday the resident reported that a male caller told her that she’d won a whopping $2.5 million, but needed to pony up $250 for “insurance.” When the resident said that she didn’t have $250, the man said that he’d settle for $100.

More worrisome, the man did know both the resident’s name and address. Police, however, said that the man never arrived at the home with check for $2.5 million.

“Citizens should be aware of this scam and no provide any information to an unknown caller and never inform someone you are home alone,” the VPD said.
