VPD seeks public's help in identifying peeping Tom

Back To Front Page

The Valparaiso Police Department has issued a community alert following “numerous” reports over the last few months of a peeping Tom on the east side of the city.

The man has been observed “lurking around residences and peeping into windows,” police said, with many of the reports centered on the apartment complexes on Chicago Street and Beech Street near Sturdy Road.

The suspect is described as a white male with a thin build, 5’ 9’’ to 5’ 11’’ in height.

The VPD did note that some witnesses have confronted the man, while others have either not called 911 or not called immediately.

“Do not confront the individual and be a good witness,” the VPD said.

Early in April, the VPD reported two incidents within 12 hours and two blocks of each other, one a case of voyeurism, the other of exhibitionism.

The incidents occurred closer to the Downtown, however, one in the 400 block of Monroe Street, where a woman noticed a man peering at her through her window while standing outside in the bushes; the other in the laundry room of an apartment building in the 500 block of Indiana Ave., where a woman doing her wash was approached by a man who solicited her for sex and then exposed himself. The suspect in both incidents was described as a white male around 6’ 0’’ in height with a thin build.
