Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris has released the name of the motorist killed early Monday morning in a pickup truck-versus-semi crash on U.S. Highway 6 in Jackson Township.

The victim was identified as Jack R. Forbes, 38, of Portage Township.

According to the Porter County Sheriff’s Police, at 3:14 a.m. Forbes was eastbound on U.S. 6 when, in the area of C.R. 381E, he crossed the center line and collided with a westbound semi-tractor tanker.

Forbes was partially ejected from his pickup and pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the tanker escaped injury.

Both lanes of east- and westbound U.S. 6, between North Calumet Ave. and C.R. 400E, were closed until approximately 10 a.m. Monday to allow for crash reconstruction and for the cleanup of a diesel spill, police said.
