A Valparaiso man was being held at the Porter County Jail this morning on
suspicion of child molesting, Valparaiso Police said.
Wayne Han, 35, with a listed address in the 1100 block of North Napoleon
St., was in custody on preliminary charges of attempted child molestation, a
Class A felony punishable by a term of 20 to 50 years.
The VPD expected Han to be charged formally later today.
According to police, the investigation began on Friday when a middle school
counselor was advised of the possible attempted molestation of a student,
after the student told two friends that earlier in the day a subject
residing at her home “threatened her with a handgun to perform sexual acts.”
Those friends notified the counselor, who then contacted the VPD and Child
Protective Services, police said.
Further investigation determined that Han had threatened the girl—younger
than 15—”by placing a gun to her head and requesting sexual acts while in
the residence,” police said. Han has admitted to the incident, police added.
