Two Canadians were found dead in their vehicle on Saturday on Jensen Drive in Portage, after it left I-80/94 and fell 30 feet, the Indiana State Police said.

The victims were identified as Isaac Acheampong, 62, and Cecelia Acheampong, 53, both of Ontario.

According to police, sometime prior to 4:20 a.m. Isaac Acheampong was westbound on I-80/94, in the area of the 19 mile marker, when for unknown reasons his 2014 Toyota Matrix left the roadway to the north, continued in a westbound direction parallel to the Interstate, then hit an earth embankment. Police said that the Toyota went airborne across Jensen Drive--which runs north and south beneath the Interstate--and landed on its west side after falling approximately 30 feet.

Isaac and Cecelia Acheampong were both pronounced dead at the scene by Porter County Deputy Coroner Bob Byrd, police said.

The accident remains under investigation but “at this time neither the use of alcohol nor narcotics is suspected as having contributed to the crash,” police said.

The Portage Police and Fire departments responded to the scene.
