Truck driver in Toll Road entrance accident sentenced

Porter County Superior Court Judge David Chidester sentenced a Monticello, Ind., semi driver Tuesday after a jury found him guilty on three counts on June 25 of leaving the scene of an accident with bodily injury, criminal recklessness, and leaving the scene of property damage accident.

Daniel C. Baker was given a sentence of 365 days in Porter County Jail with 335 days suspended and is to serve his 30 days in PCJ by Oct. 11. He was also sentenced to one year of probation to be served concurrently and to pay a fine of $5,000 with $4,750 suspended.

Chidester also ordered that Bakerís license be suspended for 30 days.

According to probable cause affidavits, at 7:04 p.m. on April 12, 2012, Baker disregarded a traffic signal causing a collision with a second vehicle at the intersection of Ind. 49 and Gateway Boulevard near the Toll Road entrance in Liberty Twp. and proceeded to exit west onto the I-80 before he was stopped by Chesterton Police near the 23-mile marker.
