Three people were
ejected from a car in Lake County when their vehicle rolled on the I-65 exit
ramp southbound to Ridge Road early Tuesday morning.
Preliminary
investigation by Indiana State Police revealed that at approximately 5:13
a.m. Tuesday, March 20, a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox was exiting from southbound
I-65 to Ridge Road when it failed to negotiate the curve. The Chevrolet went
off the roadway, down the embankment, and rolled numerous times.
All three occupants
were ejected from the Chevrolet, police said. They were identified as
Breanna Johnson, Darrel A. Jones, and Anthony Meyers, all of Chicago. Jones,
29--who police said was impaled by a piece of door frame when he was
ejected--was taken to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Crown Point where he was
airlifted to Christ Advocate in Illinois with life-threatening injuries,
police said. Meyers, 28--Jones’ brother--was taken to North Lake Methodist
Hospital in Gary with life-threatening injuries, police said. Johnson, 24,
was taken to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Hobart with non-life threatening
injuries, police said.
Police reported
that an investigation is underway to determine who was driving at the time
of the accident. Police also said that the victims were not wearing
seatbelts at the time of the accident.
