Chesterton Police are investigating a spray-paint vandalism spree in the
Downtown and surrounding neighborhoods.
According to police, sometime between 10 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. Friday
someone spray-painted graffiti on 10 buildings and a stop sign.
The victims: the Marathon gas station at 400 S. Calumet Road, the Methodist
Activity Center, St. Johns United Church at 225 W. Lincoln Ave., Shear
Artistry at 204 S. Third St., Framing Concepts at 219 Broadway, James
O’Connor Martial Arts at 534 Broadway, and Don Johnson’s Martial Arts
America at 535 Broadway.
Several private residences were also tagged, one in the 100 block of West
Porter Ave. and two in the 200 block of West Lincoln Ave.
In addition, a stop sign at Third Street and West Indiana Ave. was
vandalized.
Vandals used black and brown spray paint, police said. A can of brown paint
was recovered from the scene of one vandalism as well as the caps from two
cans.
Police estimated total damage at $5,050.
