Sobriety checkpoint in Duneland Tuesday

Back To Front Page

The Lowell District of the Indiana State Police in conjunction with the Northern Porter County Traffic Safety Partnership (NPCTSP) will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint during the late evening hours somewhere in Porter County on St. Patrick’s Day, Tuesday, March 17.

The NPCTSP is comprised of the Chesterton, Porter, Burns Harbor, and Ogden Dunes police departments.

Drivers who encounter a check point will be required to produce a valid license and registration. Those who aren’t impaired can expect only short delays of two to three minutes while passing through the checkpoint. If all information is correct and there is no other reason to be detained, the motorist will be released.

At the conclusion of the check point, troopers will be conducting roving saturation patrols, aggressively seeking impaired drivers throughout the district.

Law Enforcement encourages all motorists to call 911 or the closest ISP post or the local PD when they observe another driver who may be impaired. Be prepared to give a description of the vehicle, location and direction of travel.
