No one was injured
this morning when a car rear-ended a Duneland school bus on Wagner Road,
Porter Police said.
According to
police, at 7:40 a.m. Trevor J. Wright, 18, of Porter, was southbound on
Wagner Road, north of Indiana Ave., and following the bus when he “leaned
over to reach for an item and as a result was distracted and did not realize
that the bus was slowing down.”
Wright then drove
into the rear of the bus.
The bus driver was
Tina M. Keller, 45, of Chesterton.
None of the 19
students on the bus at the time of the collision was injured, police said.
Keller, for her
part, told police that she “felt a slight jarring but thought it was just
the heaved pavement.” The bus proved to be undamaged, police said. Wright’s
2002 GMC Savana, on the other hand, sustained up to $5,000 damage to the
grill and core-support area.
Police did
determined that the bus’ brake lights were functioning.
