Four reported members of the Invaders Motorcycle Club have been arrested on charges of battery and criminal gang activity, following an investigation of a beating caught on surveillance camera at the Rusty Nail Bar in Portage, Portage Police said.

According to police, on Oct. 23, 2013, the PPD began a “long-term investigation into a vicious, brutal, and unprovoked physical attack by members of the Invaders Motorcycle Club” on a man three days earlier at the Rusty Nail Bar.

Police said that the incident went unreported by both the owners and employee of the bar but that it was nevertheless “captured on the bar’s surveillance video.”

Although the bar’s owners “initially stated that no video existed,” the Indiana State Excise Police recovered it on Oct. 28.

On Dec. 3, John Nunez was taken into custody at a residence in Portage, Bryan Price at the BP Refinery in Whiting, and Jeremiah Gomez in Lake Station, police said. All three were charged with battery. A fourth man, Timothy Henderson, was already in custody on an unrelated charge at the time the warrants were issued, police said.

On Jan. 18, an additional charge of criminal gang activity was filed against those involved, police said.

“From the report it appears that members of the Invader Motorcycle Gang were upset that the victim stated he was not scared of them while at the bar that evening,” police said. “The victim was attacked without warning and then carried/pushed through the bar and thrown to the ground in the parking lot with no regard for his health or safety.”

“If they, the Invaders, or any other gang think that physical violence and intimidation will be tolerated or accepted in our community then they are sadly mistaken,” Portage Police Chief Troy Williams said. “We will exhaust all efforts to keep this city safe and if any deliberate senseless acts of brutality should occur, we will not rest until the suspects have been brought to justice.”
