VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP)—Relatives of a Northwest Indiana man who hanged
himself in the Porter County Jail are suing Sheriff Dave Lain and Warden
John Widup, alleging that they denied the man access to his antidepressants.
The suit filed in Porter County on behalf of Alfred Angelini Jr. contends
that jail staff refused to give Angelini his antidepressants and he hanged
himself. Angelini died from his injuries Feb. 29 at a local hospital.
The Times of Munster reports that Lain and Widup are accused in the suit of
failing to provide adequate and reasonable care.
A spokesperson for the Porter County Sheriff’s Police said that the
department does not comment on pending litigation.
