A Portage woman has been charged in connection with the molestation of a boy
younger than 14, the Porter County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said.
Teresa L. Lloyd,
46, of 1002 Sun Valley Drive, was charged on Jan. 15 with two counts of
child molesting.
According to the
probable cause affidavit filed by Det. Joe Reynolds of the Portage Police
Department, in November 2009 the father of a 16-year-old boy reported his
belief that Lloyd had molested his son. The father advised that, after
picking the boy up from a friend’s house following a school dance, he
thought it a good opportunity on the drive home to speak with his son about
safe sex and abstinence.
In response the
boy told his father that Lloyd had been “not very nice” to him when he was
younger, Reynolds stated. When his father asked him what he meant by that,
the boy said that for a period of around two years Lloyd and he would have
intercourse at least once a week, Reynolds stated.
In a subsequent
interview, the boy advised that, “when the two first started having sexual
intercourse, (Lloyd) told him not to tell anybody about it because they
would both get into trouble,” Reynolds stated. “However, he advised that he
didn’t realize what they were doing was wrong until he had a sex education
class. He stated at that point, he realized it was wrong and refused to
continue doing so. He stated (Lloyd) tried for several weeks afterward to
get him to engage in intercourse. However, he continued to refuse and
eventually she stopped trying to get him to do so.”
The boy also
advised “that he didn’t tell sooner because he was afraid of what would
happen to him and advised he only told his father because the two were
already talking about sex and he found it easy to bring up,” Reynolds
stated.
Child molesting
is a Class A felony punishable by a term of 20 to 50 years.
