Two motorists were injured in a two vehicle accident Monday on U.S. 12 between Oak Hill Road and Allegius Road, Porter Police said.

According to police, at 12:14 p.m., Jeffrey Williams, 22, of Portage, was eastbound on U.S. 12 and attempted a left turn or possibly a U-turn and collided with a semi-tractor trailer approaching westbound.

Williams was airlifted to Christ Hospital in the Chicago area by University of Chicago Aeromedical Network where he was treated for a partially collapsed lung and lacerations.

The driver of the tractor trailer was Roger Fox, 71, of Hebron.

Fox received minor lacerations on his left hand and was not transported for medical attention, police said.

Police said there were no indications of impairment and nothing appeared out of order with the tractor trailer. The trailer was loaded with gypsum, a material by-product from NIPSCO used in making drywall, police said.

Police did not give estimates of total damages to Williams’ Silver 2000 Nissan 4D and Fox’s 2013 Mack Tractor trailer. The Department of Transportation will inspect the tractor trailer later this week, police said.
