The Portage Police SWAT Team, assisted by the Porter County Drug Task Force, raided a marijuana grow operation on Tuesday installed in an apartment in the 5500 block of Tulip Court.

The resident was not at home at the time but charges of cultivating marijuana, maintaining a common nuisance, and possession of paraphernalia are being sought against the man, Portage Police said today.

According to police, at 2 p.m. officers acting on an anonymous tip about a possible marijuana grow operation at the residence executed a search warrant there.

Found in the apartment, police said: “Marijuana growing equipment (fans, grow lights, air conditioners, and pots), chemical growing agents, several marijuana bongs and pipes, and other paraphernalia.”

In addition, officers seized approximately 40 marijuana plants and $1,000 in U.S. currency, police said.

“The Portage Police Department will continue to direct the focus of our efforts and resources on combating illegal drugs and on anyone who chooses to introduce them into our great community,” Portage Police Chief Troy William said.
