A Portage man was killed this morning after being struck by a semi on I-94 in Porter County, the Indiana State Police said.

The victim was identified as Mark A. Sulich, 44.

According to police, at 3:33 a.m. Sulich was westbound on I-94 when, for unknown reasons, he parked his 2008 Honda passenger car on the outer shoulder and exited the vehicle. Trucker Bradley D. Goudman, 37, of Avilla, Ind., was westbound in the right lane when he noticed the Honda parked on the shoulder and was looking to move to the middle lane when, for unknown reasons, Sulich entered the right lane and was struck, police said.

Sulich was pronounced dead at the scene of massive blunt force trauma by Porter County Chief Deputy Coroner Bob Byrd.

Goudman--who was not injured--was hauling 36,000 pounds of milk and juice. No load was lost. Police said that he was issued a citation for not keeping his log book current.

The right lane was closed until 7:45 a.m. for investigation and cleanup.
