A Portage man turned himself in at the Porter County Jail today after being charged with five counts of possession of child pornography, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, Michael DeYoung, 39, was charged after the ISP Crimes Against Children unit began investigation of a tip, received in January, that DeYoung was uploading child pornography.

A search warrant was subsequently executed at his residence 5424 Clem Road on April 17. Evidence was collected at the scene and five counts of possession of child pornography were filed against DeYoung on Tuesday, police said.

Possession of child pornography is a Class D felony punishable by a term of six months to three years.

Investigators included ISP Crimes Against Children Unit Det. Tracy Kunstek, Det. Jennifer Richmond, ISP Sgt. Jeremy Chapman, and Sgt. Alva Whited, as well as the Portage Police Department and Department of Homeland Security.

Anyone wishing to provide a tip concerning child pornography can contact their local ISP post or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
