The Porter County Sheriff’s Police is looking for two male subjects who
passed at least five counterfeit $20 bills on Friday at garage sales on
North County Line Road in Jackson Township.
According to police, the first report of a phony $20 was made at 12:44 p.m.,
the last at 3:10 p.m. In all cases, the suspects purchased inexpensive items
with a $20: a $10 stereo receiver in the 800 block, a $2 glass jar in the
900 block, three light fixtures for $10 in the 800 block, a $2 glass plate
in the 900 block, and an unspecified item in the 900 block.
The bills were described as “rough to the touch and ridged” and “missing the
security strip and water marks identifying (them) as proper U.S. currency,”
police said, and on at least one of the bills the ink had smeared.
One of the suspects was described as being 18 to 20 years of age, 6’ to 6’
2’’ in height, with a medium build and short dark hair; the other, 40 to 50,
5’ 9’’ to 5’ 11’ in height, with a thin build, eyeglasses, and light brown
hair. At one yard sale the older suspect identified himself as the younger
one’s father.
One witness described the suspects’ vehicle as a “classic car,” while a
different witness described it as “an older model passenger car” copper in
color with a white roof.
