Phony $100 bills popping up in Valpo

Back To Front Page

There was a flurry of phony C-notes in Valparaiso on Thursday.

According to Valparaiso Police, in less than an hour a man passed or attempted to pass a counterfeit $100 bill at three different business on LaPorte Ave. and Lincolnway.

The first business was Culver’s, where at 12:30 p.m. the man tried to use a phony $100 bill in the drive-through. When the clerk began looking for the bill’s inner security strip, the suspect fled the scene in a black Honda Civic. Police said that the suspect was accompanied by a female.

Thirty minutes later, at 1 p.m., apparently the same man did the same thing at Gelsosomo’s, and this time succeeded, buying a pizza with a counterfeit $100 bill.

Finally, at 1:30 p.m., the suspect entered the Dollar General on Lincolnway and tried to buy a pack of cigarettes with a phony $100 bill. The clerk foiled this attempt and the man left the store.

The suspect is described as a black male with a “thick build,” wearing a baseball cap, dark blue jeans, and a Captain America tee-shirt.
