Two Valparaiso residents were arrested Tuesday on charges of theft and
criminal trespass after the Porter County Sheriff’s Police said that they
were caught in the act of stealing scrap metal from a property in Liberty
According to police, at 10:45 a.m. witnesses in the 600 north block of C.R.
175W reported seeing two male subjects in a white truck acting suspiciously.
Officers responded and observed the truck to be “covered with a large piece
of plywood” with roofing shingles placed on top “in an attempt to camouflage
the vehicle from passersby on the road,” police said.
The officers then made contact with two male subjects at the scene,
identified as Timothy Jetmund, 20, of 760 Eagle Creek Road, and Brian
Creech, 21, of 640-1 Oswego Road, police said. The two had already loaded
several pieces of metal scrap on the truck and were in the process of
“pushing a large metal object towards the pickup,” police said.
Jetmund and Creech both admitted to making no attempt “to contact the
residence or land owner” and to trying to conceal the truck with debris,
The property owner, for his part, advised that he had not given the two
permission to be on his land, police said.
Jetmund and Creech volunteered to put the metal back where they found it,
then were transported to Porter County Jail, police said.
