A 16-year-old Pine Township boy is facing delinquency charges of possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia after his mother reported finding both in their home, the Porter County Sheriff’s Police said.

According to police, at 8:36 p.m. Friday a resident of the 300 block of Old Chicago Road called 911 after finding a small plastic baggy of marijuana and a smoking device on the living room table. She confiscated both, then later in the day argued with her son about the items, in the end handing them over to him, she advised.

The woman then called the PCSP and advised that “she really wanted her son placed in jail and that he had just recently got off probation,” police said.

Officers made contact with the boy, who admitted that he had placed the items, located in a backpack, near the roadway to conceal it from the officers, police said. The backpack was subsequently recovered and 3. 5 grams of marijuana seized.

The officers left the boy in the custody of his parents and the report would be forwarded to the Juvenile Probation Department, police said.
