The Porter County Sheriff’s Police is investigating a series of vehicle
break-ins and thefts occurring early Sunday in the areas of County Roads
1000 North and 475 East in Jackson Township.
* According to police, at 7:11 a.m. a resident in the 400 East block
of CR 1000 North reported that sometime between 10 p.m. on Saturday and 5
a.m. Sunday someone opened his garage door, entered his vehicle and stole
his wife’s purse out of the back seat. He advised that
he also discovered his wife’s car was “rummaged through,” police said. No
damage was done to either vehicle, police said.
Police said they located the purse in a neighbor’s yard with $175 missing
from it. Next to the purse, police said they located a flashlight with a
“Tractor Supply Company” sticker on it.
* According to police, at 7:35 a.m. a Florida resident advised that he
had parked his vehicle in the 400 East block of CR 1000 North and sometime
between 10:30 p.m. on Saturday and 7 a.m. on Sunday someone broke into his
vehicle by damaging the driver’s side window and
grabbed a container holding $15. A large screwdriver was found lying on the
drivers’ seat that police said they believe was used to disengage the lock
and may have belonged to a nearby homeowner.
Police estimated the total loss and damages at $165.
* According to police, at 9:09 a.m. a resident in the 1100 West block
of CR 475 East reported to police that sometime between the hours of 1:30
a.m. and 9 a.m. someone shattered the driver’s side
window of her vehicle and stole her purse from it. She advised that contents
of her purse were located in her yard and in her neighbors, police said.
Another resident advised he noticed “a dark-colored sedan” sitting backed in
the neighbor’s driveway around 1:30 a.m. but at the time “did not think
anything of it,” police said.

* According to police, at 2:33 p.m. a resident in the 400 East block
of CR 1000 North reported that sometime between the hours of 12:30 a.m. and
12 p.m. someone had entered her vehicle and rummaged through her belongings.
She advised that she subsequently located her red bag in the grass near her
vehicle with everything accounted for, police said.
* According to police, at 5:08 p.m., a resident in the 400 East block
of CR 1000 North reported that sometime between 11 p.m. on Saturday and 7
a.m. on Sunday someone entered his two vehicles parked in his driveway and
took a personal check and a Nook tablet. Both vehicles were unlocked at the
time, the resident advised.
Police estimated the loss at $300.
* According to police, at 9:50 a.m. a resident reported that between
the hours 12 a.m. and 9:50 a.m. someone shattered the window of her vehicle
parked in the area of 1100 West block of CR 475 East. She advised at this
time that nothing was stolen out of her vehicle, police said.
Polices estimated the damage at $100.
