A Michigan City resident was arrested Wednesday on a charge of battery with
a deadly weapon after a Pine Township boy said that the man swung a knife at
him during an altercation, the Porter County Sheriff’s Police said.
According to police, at 5:54 p.m. the boy and his mother reported that Bryce
C. Guenther, 25, of 3735 W. Dunes Highway, Apt. 1A, had arrived at their
home in the 1500 block of Louisiana Ave. looking for the boy’s brother.
Guenther began yelling at the boy and his mother stepped between the two,
prompting Guenther to push her, they advised.
Guenther “then retrieved a knife from his pocket and swung it towards (the
boy), striking his hand,” police said. At that point Guenther left the
scene, but not before the boy had thrown a golf club at Guenther’s vehicle,
breaking a window on it, police said.
The boy “had a white towel wrapped around his right hand and multiple blood
stains were on his hand, the towel, and on his shirt,” police said.
Guenther, for his part, told police that the boy’s brother owed him money,
that he and the boy and his mother had begun to argue, and that he decided
just to leave. Guenther admitted being in possession at a SOG pocketknife at
the time of the incident, police said. By the time the investigating officer
interviewed him, however, he had exchanged the SOG for a Gerber knife,
Guenther was transported to Porter County Jail.
