PCSP issues warning after used syringes found

Back To Front Page

The Porter County Sheriff’s Police is urging parents to caution their children--particularly with trick-or-treat only two weeks away--about walking in and along roadways, following the discovery in Center Township on Tuesday of yet another cache of abandoned hypodermic syringes.

This time fully five dozen were found along Ind. 149, just north of Ind. 130, after a Portage Township school bus driver reported seeing needles in the road.

The syringes contained a brown/orange/red liquid residue. Few of them were safely capped.

On Sept. 28, an 11-year-old South Haven girl was stuck in the finger by a used syringe when, while walking home from school, she found a sock in the middle of Old Forge Road which proved to contain multiple uncapped hypodermic needles and a burnt spoon.
