A semi rollover
snarled rush-hour traffic on I-80/94 in Lake County this morning, the
Indiana State Police said.
According to
police, at 4:45 a.m. Robert Achterberch, 58, of Lynwood, Ill., was eastbound
in the far left lane of I-80/94, just west of the Cline Ave. overpass, when
he made an unsafe lane change in front of a semi-tractor trailer traveling
in the left middle lane.
The trucker,
Delores Murray, 57, of Port Byron, N.Y., struck Achterberch, causing her rig
to swerve into the right lane and then back left before overturning. The
rig--loaded with 40,000 pounds of produce--came to rest blocking the exit
ramp to Cline Ave. as well as the three right lanes of I-80/94, police said.
“Only the far left
lane was open for traffic to pass,” police said. The three right lanes were
closed for approximately three hours, until 7:50 a.m.
Both drivers were
wearing seatbelts and neither was injured. Achterberch was cited for speed
and unsafe lane movement while Murray was cited for speed, police added.
