McCowan transferred to Pendleton state prison

Back To Front Page

The Indiana Department of Corrections reported that convicted murder Dustin McCowan has been transferred to Pendleton Correction Facility where he will serve his 60 year sentence.

The prison, which is one of four in the state that is maximum-level, is located in Madison County and is about 25 miles northeast of Indianapolis.

The offender search on the DOC’s website says that McCowan’s “earliest possible release date” is Sept. 17, 2041, exactly 30 years after he was taken into custody. McCowan gets a one day credit off his sentence for each day of good behavior. His defense attorney John Vouga has said that McCowan could be released sooner than 30 years by successfully completing credit programs offered by the DOC.

Porter County Superior Court Judge William Alexa imposed a 60-year sentence on March 28 after McCowan was found guilty by a jury trial in the murder of Portage resident Amanda Bach on Sept. 16, 2011.
