A suspect in last month’s robbery of the Speedway gas station at 752 Indian Boundary was taken into custody on Tuesday, Chesterton Police said.

According to police, at 1 p.m. Jason Scott Mitchell, 32, of 508E 900N in Jackson Township, was arrested at his residence on a charge of robbery and transported to Porter County Jail.

Robbery is a Class C felony punishable by a term of two to eight years.

The robbery occurred at 3 a.m. Thursday, April 25, when a male subject entered the Speedway, milled around a bit, then bought a Reese’s Fastbreak candy bar, using all coins, police said. The man subsequently left the store but returned at 3:14 a.m., when this time he demanded the money in the register and threatened the clerk with violence if she resisted, police said.

The man then left the store with an undetermined amount of cash and fled on foot in a westerly direction, police said.

A K-9 track was unsuccessful.

The suspect was described as 5’ 9’ to 6’ 0’’ in height and around 180 pounds in weight and was wearing a gray hoodie sweatshirt, jogging pants, and a white baseball cap, police said.

The CPD did not reveal the details of the investigation or how Mitchell was identified as a suspect.
