A semi-tractor trailer loaded with scaffolding rolled over on I-80 in Lake
County on Tuesday, the Indiana State Police said.
According to police, at 11:30 a.m. Richard Nelson, 49, of Jordan, Minn., was
westbound at the 15.4 mile marker, just east of Ripley Street, entering
westbound I-80 from the Indiana Toll Road when he took the curve too fast.
Nelson’s load shifted, causing his rig to roll onto its driver’s side and
the scaffolding to break loose and be strewn across all lanes of westbound
traffic, police said.
Nelson was not injured but was issued a citation for speed too fast to avoid
a collision, police said.
The semi was owned by Joel Fries of Prior Lake, Minn. and was en route from
Oregon, Ohio, to Shakopee, Minn.
All lanes of westbound traffic were re-opened at 2:15 p.m.
