A Gary man was charged Thursday after the Indiana State Police said that he fired gunshots at a vehicle in which a toddler was riding on I-80/94 in Lake County.

According to police, at 3:23 p.m. a woman reported that--in a road rage incident which began in a trailer park in Lake Station--a man in a Dodge Charger had pulled along side her, smiled at her, then fired several shots at her. In addition to a male passenger, the woman’s 2-year-old child was riding in the back seat, police said. None of them was injured but police said that the victim’s vehicle was hit at least twice, in the rear tire and in the rear quarter panel.

The woman was able to provide the license plate number of the suspect vehicle and a description of the suspect: a black male with silver grill teeth, police said.

Troopers subsequently executed a traffic stop on the suspect at 25th Ave. and Grant Street in Gary and made contact with Davonte Biddings, 25, police said. Troopers also located two guns in Biddings’ Charger and a quantity of marijuana on his person, police said.

Biddings was transported to Lake County Jail and charged with criminal recklessness and possession of marijuana.
