ISP: Pedestrian hit by car on I80-94

A Schererville motorist was injured on Saturday after hitting a pedestrian who walked into traffic on Saturday on I-80/94 in Lake County, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 7:11 p.m. a pedestrian, subsequently identified as Talgat Orumbayev, 23, of Chicago, was reported to be walking along the ramp from Indianapolis Blvd. to eastbound I-80/94. A trooper was en route to investigate when Orumbayev walked into the right lane of the interstate and was struck by Terri Sams, 53, police said.

Sams was transported to Munster Community Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said. Orumbayev was also transported to Munster Community but later airlifted to the Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Ill., with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Samsí 2006 BMW was damaged on the passengerís front and the windshield.

The right and right center lanes of I-80/94 were closed for reconstruction, removal of the injured, and the vehicle.
