A Valparaiso resident was arrested Friday on a charge of pointing a firearm, following what the Indiana State Police is calling an incident of road rage.

According to police, at 10:25 a.m. troopers responded to a report of a motorist displaying a firearm on I-94 in Porter County and subsequently stopped Steven D. Krucina, 31, in the area of I-80/94 near Burr Street in Lake County.

Troopers determined that Krucina had been cut off by the driver of a Honda SUV in the area of I-94 and Ind. 249 and in response displayed a handgun and pointed it at the Honda’s driver, police said.

“No shots were fired and no injuries were reported,” police said.

Krucina was transported to Porter County Jail.

The ISP is advising motorists involved in a road-rage incident “to safely create distance from other involved parties and not to attempt to handle the situation on their own. After distance is created motorists should contact 911 and report as much information as possible to dispatchers.”
