Marijuana and THC-loaded vape cartridges with an estimated street value of more than $3 million were confiscated on Wednesday following a traffic stop on I-70 in Hendricks County, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 11:33 a.m. Danny J. Luttrell II, 27, of Indianapolis, was stopped near the 66 mile marker for following too closely. On making contact with Luttrell and his passenger, Brandon M. Pierson, 27, also of Indianapolis, the trooper detected the odor of marijuana and observed other “criminal indicators,” police said, and in a subsequent search of the vehicle discovered approximately 250 pounds of marijuana and 50,000 vape cartridges filled with THC.

“The items were discovered in the cargo storage area of the box truck,” police said. “The street value of the marijuana is estimated at $2.5 million and the vape cartridges’ estimated value is $1 million.”

Police said that Luttrell and Pierson were returning to Indianapolis from Burbank, Calif.

Both were charged with dealing marijuana and transported to Hendricks County Jail.
