More than five pounds of suspected heroin was confiscated on Sunday
following a traffic stop in Jasper County, the Indiana State Police said.
According to police, at 8 a.m. Pedro A. Burgos, 26, of Miami, Fla., was
southbound on I-65 at the 205 mile marker, near the Remington exit, after a
trooper clocked him at 97 miles per hour in a zone posted at 70 mph.
“Inconsistencies” in Burgos’ “story and actions” made the trooper
“suspicious of criminal activity,” and in a free-air search with his K-9
partner the trooper found four duct-taped packages in the front passenger’s
seat back panel, police said. Those packages contained suspected heroin with
a street value of $150,000, police said.
Burgos was arrested on charges of dealing a narcotic drug and possession of
a narcotic drug and was issued a citation for speeding, police said.
Burgos was transported to the Jasper County Jail.
