An INDOT worker was injured Monday when the bucket truck in which he was working tipped over on I-65, the Indiana State Police said.

According to police, at 12:23 p.m. three INDOT workers, assigned to the LaPorte District, were attempting to repair a large roadway sign on the outer shoulder of I-65, just south of Crown Point.

One of the three was operating the boom controls from outside the 1993 International bucket truck, while two were inside the bucket itself, police said: Hope Fogus, 46, of Michigan City, and Herman Hendricks, 31, of Westville. When the bucket truck tipped, Fogus escaped injury but Hendricks sustained a broken leg, police said.

Neither Fogus nor Hendricks was ejected from the bucket in the incident, police added.

Hendricks was transported to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Crown Point.

The right lane of I-65 was closed until 2:20 p.m.
