A U.S. Highway 20 re-surfacing project will force lane restrictions and I-94
ramp closures, the Indiana Department of Transportation said.
Beginning today and lasting through September, both directions of U.S. 20
will be restricted in Porter County to one 12-foot lane in each direction in
the current westbound lanes so work can begin on the eastbound lanes.
Beginning on Wednesday evening and lasting through mid-July, the ramps
between eastbound U.S. 20 and I-94 will be closed.
Motorists on Verplank Road will only be permitted to make right-hand turns
onto U.S. 20.
The following detours will be posted:
•Motorists eastbound on I-94 wishing to access eastbound U.S. 20 will be
directed to Ind. 249 south to U.S. 20.
•Motorists westbound on I-94 wishing to access eastbound U.S. 20 will be
directed to Ind. 49 north to U.S. 20.
•Motorists westbound on U.S. 20 wishing to access eastbound I-94 should
continue on U.S. 20 and take Ind. 249 north to I-94 east.
•Motorists westbound on U.S. 20 wishing to access eastbound I-94 should
continue on U.S. 20 and take Ind. 49 south to I-94 east.
